Chloe Moriondo is Ready To Make the World Her OYSTER With an Album Announcement!

Back in January, Chloe Moriondo released ‘shoreline’, an alluring track weaving together the complex emotions of a major breakup. The sirens song was the beginning of a new era for the indie artist, one that was finally given a name. On February 19th, Moriondo announced her “sweet, salty, and special” album oyster would be released on March 28th.

“I’ve been bursting at the seams to be able to talk about this stuff,” Moriondo had told Billboard upon the album announcement, with similar sentiments circulating across her Instagram and TikTok pages. oyster leans further into the deep sea aesthetic Moriondo has been promoting. The album cover depicts a glowing figure, possibly Moriondo herself, curled up at the bottom of the sea in an air bubble surrounded by other luminous creatures. We’re taken to the ocean floor with this album, possibly to a “fantasy world” where Moriondo has curated not only the sounds around us but also the physical feelings and pressures.

The tracklist follows the same aquatic theming, with only a few tracks falling off that course. Alongside the album release, Moriondo released the second single off the album ‘hate it’, which is one of the non-aquatic tracks. Unlike ‘shoreline’, ‘hate it’ moves away from deep-rooted sadness and emotional growing pains.

We’re introduced to a bubbly and obsessive song, something for the unhinged girls to cling to. The vibes are similar to that of Moriondo’s 2021 track ‘Bodybag’, with ‘hate it’ being the mature older sister… at least in terms of production. Emotionally, the song is reckless, with Moriondo herself telling listeners that she’s “so crazy” before divulging how she wants to wear her muse's body and trade places with them, very Substance-esc if you asked me.

‘hate it’ has a music video accompaniment as well. Moriondo is featured in a variety of locations, sometimes on a sandy beach or other times rolling in slime. The camera work, alongside Moriondo’s choices of outfit, gives the impression she has just crawled out of an egg… or possibly an oyster where she’s the pearl. Our personal favourite look from the video is Moriondo’s siren look, where white contacts block out her eyes, her cheekbones are chiselled out, she has these gorgeous long fake nails, and is drenched in black slime. She’s both hauntingly beautiful and downright insane, the perfect combination to represent the track.
